All employees who work in Switzerland are obligatorily insured against accidents and occupational illnesses. Accident insurance (UV) covers damages that arise if insured persons have an accident or suffer from an occupational illness. The benefits include medical treatment and financial support. The premiums for insurance for occupational accidents and illnesses are paid by the employer. The premiums for insurance for non-occupational accidents are usually paid by the employee. Employers are liable for the entire premium amount but deduct employees’ shares from their salaries. The premium amounts differ depending on the insured person’s income and the type of company.
